TRAINING

 

Batemans Bay Surf Life Saving Club runs a variety of training courses in which are available to club members who would like to gain more qualifications and for those who would like to join Surf Life Saving.  

 

Training courses are run in-house and through the Far South Coast Branch regularly throughout the season and leading up to it, with high involvement and request trainers are able to carry out a course.

Surf Rescue Certificate

Course Overview

The Surf Rescue Certificate provides participants with the skills and knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations and act in the role of Water Safety Personnel.

What qualifications and/or prerequisites do I need?

There are no specific qualifications

Other Requirements

You must be able to swim 200m in under 5 minutes in a pool of at least 25m in length, or over a measured open water course, prior to undertaking any water training or assessment activities. If you believe you already possess some or all of the skills and knowledge of this award, or who have received one or more of the related units of competency, you may wish to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer. You must be at least 13 years of age on the date of final assessment.

Bronze Medallion - Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

Course Overview

The Bronze Medallion course provides participants with the skills and knowledge of patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations. This is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia.

What qualifications and/or prerequisites do I need? 

There are no specific qualifications

Other Requirements 

You must be able to swim 400m in under 9 minutes in a pool of at least 25m in length, or over a measured open water course, prior to undertaking any water training or assessment activities. If you believe you already possess some or all of the skills and knowledge of this award, or who have received one or more of the related units of competency, you may wish to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer. For example, you may apply to receive RPL if you are transitioning from your Surf Rescue Certificate to the Bronze Medallion. You must be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment.
